Hela Sverige cyklar
- Saturday 15 August - Sunday 16 August
- 16.00 - 09.00
- Nybrogatan 8, 852 31 Sundsvall, Sweden
Hello,
On August 15, TEAM KIRUNA will come from Härnösand to Sundsvall as part of "All of Sweden cycles for the climate", which is run by the cycling promotion organization and POW, see website
We hope to be many when we reach Sundsvall, but we want to become more, and the idea is that in each place we stay overnight, more cyclists will join us so that we are a really large group when we reach Stockholm.
I am addressing bikepacking beginners, experienced bikepackers, and everyone in between. While we will be making an effort for the environment, I hope the participants experience the charm of traveling this way. I myself started bikepacking the year I turned 71 years old. I cycled to COP26 in Glasgow, United Kingdom (2500 km). The following year, I was ready to cycle to COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt (800 km + return trip). I received a lot of attention worldwide (newspapers, radio, TV) after the Egyptian president al-Sisi invited me for a short bike tour.
This is probably also the reason why I have been asked to lead TEAM KIRUNA. Besides having experience in bikepacking, I am also a member of Swedish Peace, the Nature Conservation Association, and Rebellmamma. As you know, Rebellmamma sounds worse than it is. We sit in a circle in suitable places, sing, knit, hand out rebel teddy bears with information, and inform orally as well as through printed materials about the climate emergency.
On one hand, it is about getting cyclists to join the trip, and on the other hand, finding kind people who open their homes to us for a night.
Last but not least, I want to point out that you do not need to go all the way to Stockholm, but it would, of course, be wonderful if everyone had the time and energy for this 6-day and 490 km long bike ride and could also stay a couple of days for the big 24-hour manifestation that ends with a large demonstration for the climate, where members of many different associations will participate. If one cannot handle long daily distances (there are a couple), you can take your bike on the regional train for part of the journey. The rest of the daily distances will be around 60 - 70 km. We only cycle on paved country roads. I am also happy to give tips on beginner bikepacking so that one does not have to make the same mistakes I made on my first trip.
All types of bikes are welcome, including electric and special bikes. I currently ride a three-wheeled e-recumbent bike.
My question to you: Would you help me spread the information?
