In 1888, the city center was subjected to a devastating fire that destroyed large parts of Sundsvall's inner city. Out of the ashes rose a new city built entirely of stone to prevent new fires - hence the name Stenstan. Stenstan is still the most pure example of an 1890s town in Sweden, where historic buildings, with lavish exteriors and imaginative details, give you something new to discover every time you look up.

Lyslördag

If there's one thing we're proud of, it's Lyslördag. An annual event where the city center is lit up to the tones of Stad i Ljus. An experience for everyone when Stora torget in Sundsvall is filled with both Sundsvall residents and visitors.

This year's Lyslördag is on November 15, 2025.
