LOTTEN RAPP
"At the top of Getberget I feel safe and creative"
Lotten Rapp is an adventurer and former elite freeride world tour skier who spent many years hurtling down steep cliffs around the world. What is the best thing about Destination Sundsvall?
- What I appreciate most about this place on earth is that it is located in Norrland. The pace, the mentality and the fact that people recognize each other and say "hello" to each other, it makes me proud, happy and safe.
What is your favorite destination in Destination Sundsvall?
- For me and other local patriots, Getberget is like a holy mountain. Partly to see the contours of the mountain from a distance, but also to get up to Getberget's top cabin. There are several nice viewpoints up there and I can be calm there. When I sit up there I feel safe and creativity is awakened in me when I see Ljungan and the valley's villages from a higher perspective.
Why did you choose to settle here?
- I was home one summer in 2016, training barefoot for another season as a skier at the Freeride World Qualify, when a village boy called Per Magnus spotted me at the gym. Our first date was at the Jämtgaveln nature reserve and it was actually he who made me choose to live in Sweden instead of Switzerland. Now that we have a small child, I am incredibly grateful to live here. This region has everything I want in life. Inspiring people, nature experiences, cultural experiences and a feeling that everything I need is right here. It may be difficult to explain to city people, but in a small village if you are interested in positive social development, every single person can see that the little I do for others has an impact. It gives me goosebumps.
LOTTEN TIPSAR
"My off-piste runs on Getberget and Vikåsen provide fantastic skiing pleasure"
What is your best memory of the destination?
- It was Midsummer's Eve at my brother-in-law's croft, a small red cottage overlooking a small pond, outside the village of Munktorp. We ate well, danced around the midsummer pole and talked for hours. Then we were three people who took the car up the mountain Flataklocken, the geographical center of Sweden. There we all stood in the golden midnight sun and looked out over our region and the villages in the distance.
If you want to eat like Lotten Rapp. Which restaurant in the destination should you choose and which dish should you choose from the menu?
- Ånge Deli of course. Fantastic food and the man who runs the place is probably a little secretly in love with me, haha. More love for the people! Of course, there are many other good restaurants in the destination as well, but at Ånge Deli I choose their fantastic fish dishes.
You who are extreme skiers. Is there nice off-piste skiing in Destination Sundsvall?
- For ten years I traveled with the ski case on my shoulder around the snow-capped peaks of the world. I got to ski on big mountains on everything from ice to powder snow. But the cool thing is that here on the mountains of Medelpad, both I and other enthusiasts have found some off-piste skiing. My runs are on Getberget and Vikåsen, which give me fantastic skiing pleasure and a feeling of gratitude.
