History of Sundsvall
The Sundsvall fire of 1888 was devastating and destroyed large parts of the city center. From the ashes rose a new city built in stone to prevent new fires - hence the name Stenstan. Stenstan is still the purest example of an 1890s town in Sweden, where historic buildings, with lavish exteriors and imaginative details, give you something new to discover every time you look up.
