The history
After the dramatic fire of 1888, when large parts of Sundsvall were reduced to ashes, it was decided that the expansion should be done with stone to reduce the risk of another major city fire. With the help of large amounts of insurance money, a very magnificent and impressive city was built. Thanks to extensive conservation efforts, we can still enjoy the magnificent buildings, esplanades and history of Stenstan. Look up as you walk along the streets of Stenstan and enjoy the amazing houses! The popular city walks are a great way to get behind the facades and hear the exciting stories of the lords and servants who lived there.
